Funny Being Single Funny Movie Scenes About Breaking Up

She wore red pajamas, she gulped red wine, and she sang along to "All by Myself." Single. Sad. This was how the world was introduced to Bridget Jones in 2001. It was the ultimate Pity Party scene, in which a heartbroken soul indulges in hysteria and wine, ice cream, chocolate, sappy entertainment, or a combination of all of the above.

As Bridget Jones lives on today with her third movie, Bridget Jones's Baby, so does the Pity Party trope. Humorous, exaggerated, and yet relatable, characters' devastation over being single or recently broken up provides us an entry point of sympathy. It reaffirms that it's okay to be messy, to not have your shit together, and to wallow. Pity Party scenes can be pretty funny, too.
