What Are Cool Animals to Make in Flower Pots Mini Easy
In today's post: Today we're sharing a fun spring craft for kids! They can turn small flower pots from the dollar store into cute spring animals. Top with them faux succulents or your favorite spring plants.
Easy Spring Craft for Kids
My daughter LOVES crafts. And art. And creating in general. Last spring I had a couple small flower pots left over after I made Flower Pot Bunnies, and she commandeered them. Before we knew it she'd made an entire farmyard of animal flower pots, which were the inspiration for today's post.
Today I'm sharing step by step photos for each of these three farm animal flower pots so that kids of all ages will be able to follow along and paint their own pots.
Supplies
You only need a couple of things to make these cute spring animal flower pots:
- Small Flower Pots: You can find these small terra cotta pots in a 3-pack at Dollar Tree, or at a craft store.
- Acrylic Paint: You can use any type of craft paint you'd like. I used acrylic paints from Walmart. You'll need white, black, yellow, orange, light pink, dark pink and red.
- Small Foam Paintbrush: Having multiple foam brushes is nice because it allows your child to work on multiple pots at once
- Small Paintbrush: For painting on the faces
- Wood Skewer (optional, not pictured): A wood skewer is a great tool for painting eyes and nostrils – just dip the flat end in black paint to "stamp" on perfect round dots for eyes. Dip the pointy end for "stamp" small dots for nostrils.
- Hair Dryer (optional): The craft paint dries very quickly on these pots, in just a couple of minutes, but you can use a hair dryer to dry each layer of paint even faster!
How to Paint the Chick
- Start with a small terra cotta flower pot.
- Paint it yellow using a foam paintbrush. Paint the top half of the pot first (including about half an inch inside the pot) and let it dry – it will only take a few minutes. Then paint the bottom half of the pot and let it dry. A hair dryer can be used to speed up the drying process.
- Use the smaller paintbrush to paint a triangle for a beak in the center front of the pot. Add red feathers as shown below.
- Use the flat end of a wood skewer to "stamp" two black dots for eyes, or paint two small circles with the smaller paintbrush.
How to Paint the Pig
- Start with a small terra cotta flower pot.
- Paint it pink using a foam paintbrush and let it dry. A hair dryer can be used to speed up the drying process.
- Use the smaller paintbrush to paint a darker pink oval in the front middle of the pot for a snout. Also paint ears in darker pink.
- Use the flat end of a wood skewer to "stamp" two black dots for eyes, or paint two small circles with the smaller paintbrush. Use the pointed end of the skewer to "stamp" two tiny dots for nostrils, and paint on a small smile.
How to Paint the Cow
- Start with a small terra cotta flower pot.
- Paint it white using a foam paintbrush and let it dry. A hair dryer can be used to speed up the drying process.
- Use the smaller paintbrush to paint a dark pink oval in the center front of the pot. Add eyes and nostrils in black using a skewer.
- Paint a variety of black spots.
